The American cockroach, aka Periplaneta Americana, is the largest of common cockroaches and is considered to be a pest. Though not aquatic, it is often called a water bug and also misidentified as a Palmetto bug. They are native to Africa and the Middle East and believed to have been introduced to America from the 17th century AD onward as the result of human commercial activity.
